For Linda and Barry as they share a special day together….
September 1 brings Barry and Linda Gibb another milestone in the journey of life, their amazing, crazy, complicated life. As Linda recently said, “It’s been quite a journey…sadness, laughter and so many memories.”
Fans celebrate Barry’s birthday (horray!), while we also marvel at the 44th anniversary of the Gibbs’ union. It’s no secret that fans credit Linda Gibb with being their lifeline to Barry—that she is his cheerleader, counselor, partner and confidante. No one but family knows what their marriage is really like behind the gates in Miami Beach. Like all marriages, they’ve probably had several challenges and distresses, coupled with extreme highs and beautiful moments. The sad losses that Bee Gee fans are painfully aware of have made this couple resilient, and we have to remember that the bad times don’t negate the good times and make them less meaningful. I think Barry and Linda are like the music world’s equivalent to the Kennedy political family, heartbreaking tragedy coupled with incredible success, living a fantasy existence filled with magical experiences.
Yes, Barry celebrates another birthday and stands alone representing his brothers both on stage and off. I think today I’m trying to face the reality of life and see this landmark for what it truly stands for. We all die, and we won’t live forever, but Barry and his brothers have created something that will live on. Not only can Barry look back on a catalogue of music that will live forever, but he and Linda have a family legacy that will carry on for generations to come. Their children and grandchildren are their shining successes that stand above all else.
Barry has not stayed behind, locked in the past as so many who grieve do. I have said before that his dreams have always been bigger than his fears, and for this the fans are grateful. We wish Barry and Linda continued love in their lives, coupled with patience for the fans and their desires. Bee Gee fans never get enough. They want Barry to sing to them. They want to soak in the music, to swim in it.
He now celebrates a new year in his life as he looks back on a year that was filled with concerts in the UK and the USA, another spectacular milestone. I think fans have what I call a “crippling hope”. What will he do? Everyone from Germany to Brazil wants the singing to continue, Barry’s performances to light up the stages around the globe. We can’t imagine him not singing to us and dare to hope he will go on.
For now, let’s focus on the moment, the fact that Barry is well and celebrating time with his family and the woman who has handled her life with him with grace, passion and strength. We couldn’t ask for more. Happy milestone, Barry and Linda!

The Gibbs are amazing, aren’t they? Thanks for the comment.
This was a beautiful post! It is relevant today as it was 5 years ago! Now that Barry will be releasing a country album with the help of some famous friends and a documentary (they really deserve a movie), fans have something to look forward to. Apparently there will also be a limited number of concerts to support his album YAY! I was so fortunate to finally get to meet him at his Concord Meet &Greet. He was everything I knew him to be-Warm, Immensely Humble, Kind, and still very handsome. He obviously loves the fans. My first exposure to the Bee Gees’ music was in 1971. I was 9. I would have loved to have your job. I am a writer with a BA in Communications. My physical injuries from on the job and in a terrible hit and run head on collision would have prevented me from fulfilling that role. Life has been hard. The best thing in my life are my two daughters and my amazing granddaughter, who is bright, beautiful, and 4. I have enjoyed reading all of your posts! Thanks for recognizing the magic of the Gibb Family!!!
